David is one of the leading bridge professionals in the UK, with numerous successes in domestic and international tournaments. Over the last 30 years, he has represented England and Britain at both Junior and Open levels of competition.
As a Junior, David represented Great Britain in three European Championships, and has subsequently represented England at the World Team Olympiad (2004), the European Team Championships (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2021) and the Bermuda Bowl (2013, 2015, 2019 and 2022).
His achievements as a player include winning a whole range of domestic events – Britain’s most prestigious tournament, the Gold Cup (six times), Crockfords (twice), the Spring Foursomes and the Lederer Memorial Trophy (three times).
David is a WBF World International Master, and his International successes include a bronze medal in the European Open Teams (2005), a 6th place finish in the 2006 World Open Pairs (the highest placing by an English pair in over 60 years) and a silver medal in the European Team Championships (2014).
2011 saw David win the NEC Cup in Japan before going on to Louisville, Kentucky to finish runner-up in the Vanderbilt, one of the most prestigious team events in USA. In 2017, he finished second in the Vanderbilt again. David is a frequent visitor to the North American Bridge Championships and has recorded numerous top ten finishes in major US pairs events including winning the Silodor Open Pairs in 2013.
Aside from representing England as a player, David has also coached the England Open Team (they finished 4th in the 2000 World Teams Olympiad) and managed the England U26 Squad.
BRIDGE APPS & TEACHING
David is also an accomplished teacher, and has taught thousands of students over the last ten years. He has extended his teaching material by developing a series of tutorial bridge apps for the iphone and ipad. There are now several additions available as part of a ‘betterbridge’ series.
